[Application Notes] Required Straight Pipe Length for Control valves

The following conditions are required when a control valve is installed in order to ensure a good flow.

Conditions for Control Valve Piping

– More than 10D of straight pipe length on the upstream side

– More than 7D of straight pipe length on the downstream side

(D refer to the nominal pipe diameter)

These conditions will insure a steady and repeatable flow rate.

If these conditions are not met, reduced flow rate, abnormal noise, undesirable vibration, and other fluid system problems may occur. This is illustrated in the “Flow capacity―Test procedure”  part of IEC 60534-2-3 (1997) as shown below.
